Frances Haugen told Congress that Facebook “knows how to make Facebook and Instagram safer, but won’t make the necessary changes because they have put their astronomical profits before people.” She said that absent Congressional intervention, social media companies like Facebook are “tearing apart our democracy, putting children in danger, and sowing ethnic violence around the world.”
Haugen was a product manager for Facebook from 2019 to 2021 and worked on their Civic Integrity team.
Haugen courageously spoke up when many at Facebook won’t stand up to corrupt leadership, who have disregarded the company’s role in spreading misinformation.
Haugen is right that Facebook holds way too much power and will put their profits over political freedom, but her actions are only an attempt to censor conservative voices.
What else is the left focusing on?
